Killing is wrong, and bad. There should be a new, stronger word for killing like badwrong or badong. YES! Killing is badong. From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing... Gnodab.

So... A Year Has Passed...
Posted by Greg on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 21:34
Yeah, I know... I've not updated this site for over a year... I've thought about doing so from time to time, but just never got motivated quite enough...

So, what has happened?? Not a lot really.. Just been living life day by day, and not much has changed... But I'll try to list some things that have....

I moved from a townhouse in Cocoa, to a kick ass house in Port Saint John. My old landlord had to kick me out, against his own wishes, due to my dog being larger than allowed by the jackass homeowners association.. But, it has turned out for the best... I'm paying about 100 bucks more a month, but now have a much larger house, with a fenced yard, in a nicer hood...

The only bad thing, I had to give up my pool table.. While the new place is plenty big, much more so than the old place... There is no single room large enough to accommodate a pool table.. So that sucks... And with that, my time spent playing pool has declined greatly, since I hate hate hate, going to smoke filled bars or pool halls... Oh well, life goes on...

Love has come and gone... And I use the word love pretty loosely... So rather I should say relationships have come and gone.. But nothing really worth noting. No one so special, that I'd care enough to go in to detail about.. But fortunately as well, no one bad enough that I'd care enough to go in to detail either... lol...

I moved into a new position at work... It has been a double edged sword really... In my old position, I shared a common mindset and level of technical knowledge with my boss. We saw eye to eye on just about everything, and could always converse about technical aspects, and totally understand each other.. Finally someone who Gets it!! Kudos to my old boss, and more importantly friend, Dave... Definitely one of the best in both realms.. The good thing is, even though I no longer work for him, he still remains someone who I am allied with, and must go through, for many of my job duties... And it is nice to have someone in my corner, who knows the right way to do things, and will back me up...

The flip side... In the old position, I did more policy related work, than I did technical work... And that somewhat bored me, and I was honestly... Not very good at it.. I was definitely not a very valuable or good employee, in that position.. I just don't have the ability or drive to do some of the things, that I needed to do.. But in my new position, I've gotten back to the technical side of things.. I'm back to dealing with networking and firewalls directly.. Rather than telling someone how they should do something properly, I am the one actually doing it! And I think I am much better at doing this. Even better... They gave me a lot more money!!

As well, I now have a new co-worker and friend.. Mr. Juanito! We call him the Cisco Kid... Because, well... If a human could marry a machine... Juan would marry a Cisco Router!!! lol... The guy is one of the best I've seen in the network routing field, and as well is just a great person in general! He has become a great friend...

So what else... Ahh yes... I must put in a blurb about the fact I have been asked to be in Dave's wedding.. Me and Dave are both the same in the way neither of us show much emotionally.. So while I considered him a close friend to myself, I never knew such was reciprocated... Especially enough to be at his side when he exchanges vows with that one person, who we all know, was put here on this earth to be with him...

Sierra is still the best damn woofer in the world.. She is about 8 years old now, and shows no sign of slowing down.. Every day when I come home from work, she is jumping up and down with excitement! She still sleeps by my side, follows me into every room I go, and is just as loyal and loving! Really people, there is no breathing entity on this planet, who could be better!!

Besides the above.. There is not much to report, that I can think of right now anyway... Maybe now that I have updated, I can continue to do so more often... And perhaps I will recall more from this past year, and I can share more stories with everyone...

Well.. Sorry for the lack of detail here.. And sorry if I left anything out, that might be of importance to some.. I just wrote everything here off the top of my head.. Like said, I will hopefully get back into the habit of posting here, and will have more to write... Till then... Take care of yourselves, and each other!

Mmm.... Stone Creek Pizza here in Cocoa...
Posted by Greg on Tuesday, August 08, 2006 at 10:44
About a year ago a friend of mine who used to own a Domino’s franchise out in Orlando, sold out that location and opened up an independent pizza shop here in Cocoa, FL. Actually I think technically it is Port St. John, but hey... Whatever...

Unfortunately where I live I happen to be out of their delivery area. So I've never had a chance to order. However, where my office is located, is in their delivery area! So yesterday when I did not have time to leave for lunch, I figured I would give it a try!

Step 1, Call Kara because I could not find the number for the joint. I kept looking up Stone Brook Pizza. Not sure where I got that!?!?

Step 2, Put simply... Call Jackie at 321-631-3888 and order a pizza!

Step 3, Wait about 20 minutes for the pizza to be delivered.

Step 4, Commence in the "Eating of the Pizza" (read like, Running of the Bulls)

Anyways, in short... I can honestly say this is some of the best pizza I have ever had. If memory serves, Walter got all the equipment for the shop from a Papa Johns franchise that went under in Arizona. So perhaps we have a little Papa Johns meets Domino’s going on here??? Well, there was something more.. Just flat out though, the pizza was great!

One of the things I've always hated about other pizza shops, and loved about Domino’s. Was the fact Domino’s pizza is always delivered hot. Everyone else seems to be just warm. It must be those vehicle powered totes they use. Well I am guessing Jackie and Walter are using the same thing, another Domino’s carry-over, because the pizza was HOT!!!

Okay, can you believe I ranted this much about pizza!? Well the reason is because I loved it! Jackie, you have my pizza business!

If anyone is interested in trying them out, here are the details:

Stone Creek Pizza
3760 Curtis Blvd.
Port Saint John, FL

Martin Greenwald... aka, Dad.
Posted by Greg on Friday, June 16, 2006 at 00:22
It seems like time passes without warrant. On a normal day we think nothing of it, and as natural as it is for the Sun to shine, or the Moon to wane, we accept the special moments in life as little more than space between nothing.

How could we let this time pass, without embedding it into our memories as what matters most???

Tonight I talked with the longest friend of my life. We shared a few good stories, many from years long passed. How easy it was for us to come up with great conversation... Great moments... Things that years ago had become embedded in our memories. The brown van Matt fell off of and the black and white double DIN in it. The food that makes Emeral look like a third grade home-ec student. The "Go get the drill". The computer wars between fathers, that they knew nothing about...

In 18 years, a lot can be shared between two people. And with all in life I've shared, I have more great stories from this friendship than all else combined. I could spend hours boring everyone with such tales, and at some point I may. But right now, I only wish to give tribute to someone very special. Someone with whom I grew up. Someone who shaped my life in a grand way, and who helped make me the person I am today.

I've admittedly called three people dad in my life. My biological dad, my step dad, and my best friend’s father.

Today, I lost one of them. It is hard in so many ways, but in the end... I knew this day would come, sooner than later. It makes me sad, but I realize, it is yet another part of life.

Matt, I know my pain can not remotely touch yours. But I do have great pain. That said, I am grateful to have had every minute I had with him. I can truly say my life, and this world, is a greater place because of your Dad. My Dad. Our Dad… His smile is matched by none. And that which brought upon that smile, is understood by only those who knew him like us.

To conclude this entry, I've this to say.

Dad, I love you...

The Irish Pub = No Tip!!!
Posted by Greg on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 15:08
For about a year now, myself and Dave have visited The Irish Pub in Titusville, at least once a week. Often several times a week, and we always enjoy it. They have in my opinion, Dave's as well, some of the best wings around!!! Definitely love the wings... Typically on Fridays, we will take a more laid back lunch, and just hang out. Sit outside, relax, and just take it easy for a bit...

Well today Mohamed, one of our graphics designers who works remotely, was in town. So 6 of us here at the office all went out to lunch. Most of us ordering the usual for drinks (Diet-Coke no Ice for Me), which came quickly thanks to Kathy our regular server. Following that, some other lady took over. And well, it was all downhill. We saw 3 people who were seated well after us, served long before us. More time passes, about an hour now... Well the waitress sensing our discontent decides to chime in. Rather than take responsibility and say they were having a problem in the kitchen or the like, she decides to blame Mohamed by saying "Well it is because you ordered your burger well done, that takes longer."

Up until that point, I would have still tipped. I understand things get hectic or people make mistakes. But to rudely blame someone who is obviously not at fault, gets you a losing ticket in my book.

Never once was there any hint of remorse, or an apology. So when it came time to sign my receipt, I entered a nice $0.00 in the tip field. Sorry lady, it may or may not have been your fault it took so long. But you could have been a little more concerned and/or apologetic, rather than being rude!

To top it off, we asked for our bill. Then waited another 10 minutes… We decided to walk inside from the patio, and just pay up front. Well where was she?? Out in front of the building smoking a cigarette!!!

What sucks for her is, I am a great tipper. Usually anywhere from 30-50% but 50% being the normal end of my spectrum. On occassion I have no problem tipping 100%. I realize that people in the service industry make their living off tips. And I want to make sure they are well taken care of. Well that is, if they are decent to me and afford me that same courtesy.

InfoSec World Conference
Posted by Greg on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 09:40
Well next week I will be out of the office to attend the InfoSec World Conference. All the latest and greatest in information security will be on display at the expo, and there are many seminars I will be attending. Tom Ridge will be the keynote speaker, so that promises to be interesting. I wonder if anyone will ask this year if George Bush is an idiot??? The only bad thing about this conference is that it is at a Disney resort. And the travel distance is just short of what it takes for the company to provide a hotel room. So I will have to drive out each day. Granted I am reimbursed for travel expenses, but sheesh that is going to be a lot of driving. Either way, I am looking forward to going.

On a side note... My car is hella dirty, I really need to clean it! I just wanted everyone to know that. lol...

Bowflex!
Posted by Greg on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 16:07
A couple of months ago I finally retired my old free weights, and purchased a Bowflex. I did this mainly because of the inherent risk involved when lifting free weights without a spotter. On more than one occassion I have found myself in a bad position, that could have turned out worse, if not for having that little extra bit of strength to get the bar back up.

So rather than force myself to be put into a potentially bad position day after day, I decided to start looking for an alternative. In talking with my bud Anthony, who is a pretty avid weight lifter, he expressed that the Bowflex was about the best thing since sliced bread. So I went for one...

A couple months worth of having one, and I have to say.. I love it! The feel you get throughout the rep is just like that of free weights, and you get that same feeling of accomplishment when the rep is finished by the change in how the weight feels. Hmm, kinda hard to explain...

Bottom line, if you are looking for a safe alternative to free weights, I strongly suggest looking at a Bowflex!
