Another Dollar.
Yeah, I know... You can't believe they pay us that much here, eh...
Coming off the weather from last week, seems there is a bit of work this week. We've had some scattered priorities in the networks department, and because of it, things were just not getting done. Perhaps in part due to lack of accountability. I mean, if everyone is doing everything, how can any one person be identified as not doing their part?
So, our supe finally gave each of us exacting duties with some of the bigger projects we have going on. Steve gets all the new Cisco routers being configured for MPLS. Annette gets all the current field routers needing switched over to MPLS. And then, there’s me.. What do I get? Setting up all our DR Clients with Cisco ASA VPN Appliances.
Not a bad delegation of duties. But wouldn’t you know it, right when I get hammering on the new project, seems everyone all at once has other important things they need done also. A couple client migrations means having to assign hundreds of ports. All the while, I’ve been trying to clean things up in the firewalls, now I’ve little time to do so. And that’s just the software side. Our firewalls are in need of some hardware upgrades, but that too, for now… Must take a back seat.
----
The storm has passed. The sun has winked. But now, news of another storm possibly coming our way. Well, who would have thought to put a datacenter in Florida!?!? Oops, err.. Disregard that statement! Florida is a great place for a datacenter! No matter what they tell you.
Anyways… I guess I’ll see how the next couple days go, and if it seems like it is indeed going to smack us… Again… Then I’ll go get some fuel for the generator. As of right now, the tank is about half full. Or am I supposed to say half empty? Whichever you prefer, that’s what it is. Regardless that’s about enough to run it for about 6-10 hours, depending on the load. I’ve got enough fuel storage capability, for about 3 days running straight, which is something I’d rarely have the need for... Rather, typically, run it for a few hours, then shut it down and just chill out. As mentioned in a previous post, all my computer equipment can run off the UPS system, for quite a long time.
Well, I guess I should get back to assigning ports… Eek, and I have yet to see what other work orders threaten my daily sanity. I’m sure there are a few!
Oh and yeah… WTF… 2 Updates in under a weeks time!?!? What is going on here??
Well, there isn’t much depth to any of the updates... So, meh… Take from it what ya will…
Cheers!

Was... In a word... Boring!
Having been through a few hurricances, such as Charley, Wilma, Ivan, Francis... Well this one was pretty weak... Now yes, it did stick around for a long time and there was a little wind... However, there was good bit of rain, enough to cause a lot of flooding here on the East Coast.
How did it go here, for me? Well, my power went out.. Big whoop, all my servers run on a pretty massive UPS system, enough to run everything for about 10 hours. As well, I have a generator wired directly to the power here in the house. So for me, there was no power loss.
However, I have two skylights, both of which had some minor leaks. A good portion of the fence in my backyard was blown over. And finally, I've not cleaned the gutters for my screened in porch, so they were quite clogged, which caused water to accumulate on the roof panels, which in turn caused them to buckle a bit.
All in all though... It was pretty boring compared to Charley, where as you can see from the pics above, obviously did a lot more damage.
For those whose homes have been flooded.. Well, that sucks.

Mmm.... Stone Creek Pizza here in Cocoa...

About a year ago a friend of mine who used to own a Domino’s franchise out in Orlando, sold out that location and opened up an independent pizza shop here in Cocoa, FL. Actually I think technically it is Port St. John, but hey... Whatever...
Unfortunately where I live I happen to be out of their delivery area. So I've never had a chance to order. However, where my office is located, is in their delivery area! So yesterday when I did not have time to leave for lunch, I figured I would give it a try!
Step 1, Call Kara because I could not find the number for the joint. I kept looking up Stone Brook Pizza. Not sure where I got that!?!?
Step 2, Put simply... Call Jackie at 321-631-3888 and order a pizza!
Step 3, Wait about 20 minutes for the pizza to be delivered.
Step 4, Commence in the "Eating of the Pizza" (read like, Running of the Bulls)
Anyways, in short... I can honestly say this is some of the best pizza I have ever had. If memory serves, Walter got all the equipment for the shop from a Papa Johns franchise that went under in Arizona. So perhaps we have a little Papa Johns meets Domino’s going on here??? Well, there was something more.. Just flat out though, the pizza was great!
One of the things I've always hated about other pizza shops, and loved about Domino’s. Was the fact Domino’s pizza is always delivered hot. Everyone else seems to be just warm. It must be those vehicle powered totes they use. Well I am guessing Jackie and Walter are using the same thing, another Domino’s carry-over, because the pizza was HOT!!!
Okay, can you believe I ranted this much about pizza!? Well the reason is because I loved it! Jackie, you have my pizza business!
If anyone is interested in trying them out, here are the details:
Stone Creek Pizza 3760 Curtis Blvd. Port Saint John, FL 321-631-3888

Martin Greenwald... aka, Dad.

It seems like time passes without warrant. On a normal day we think nothing of it, and as natural as it is for the Sun to shine, or the Moon to wane, we accept the special moments in life as little more than space between nothing.
How could we let this time pass, without embedding it into our memories as what matters most???
Tonight I talked with the longest friend of my life. We shared a few good stories, many from years long passed. How easy it was for us to come up with great conversation... Great moments... Things that years ago had become embedded in our memories. The brown van Matt fell off of and the black and white double DIN in it. The food that makes Emeral look like a third grade home-ec student. The "Go get the drill". The computer wars between fathers, that they knew nothing about...
In 18 years, a lot can be shared between two people. And with all in life I've shared, I have more great stories from this friendship than all else combined. I could spend hours boring everyone with such tales, and at some point I may. But right now, I only wish to give tribute to someone very special. Someone with whom I grew up. Someone who shaped my life in a grand way, and who helped make me the person I am today.
I've admittedly called three people dad in my life. My biological dad, my step dad, and my best friend’s father.
Today, I lost one of them. It is hard in so many ways, but in the end... I knew this day would come, sooner than later. It makes me sad, but I realize, it is yet another part of life.
Matt, I know my pain can not remotely touch yours. But I do have great pain. That said, I am grateful to have had every minute I had with him. I can truly say my life, and this world, is a greater place because of your Dad. My Dad. Our Dad… His smile is matched by none. And that which brought upon that smile, is understood by only those who knew him like us.
To conclude this entry, I've this to say.
Dad, I love you...

The Irish Pub = No Tip!!!
Posted by Greg on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 15:08

For about a year now, myself and Dave have visited The Irish Pub in Titusville, at least once a week. Often several times a week, and we always enjoy it. They have in my opinion, Dave's as well, some of the best wings around!!! Definitely love the wings... Typically on Fridays, we will take a more laid back lunch, and just hang out. Sit outside, relax, and just take it easy for a bit...
Well today Mohamed, one of our graphics designers who works remotely, was in town. So 6 of us here at the office all went out to lunch. Most of us ordering the usual for drinks (Diet-Coke no Ice for Me), which came quickly thanks to Kathy our regular server. Following that, some other lady took over. And well, it was all downhill. We saw 3 people who were seated well after us, served long before us. More time passes, about an hour now... Well the waitress sensing our discontent decides to chime in. Rather than take responsibility and say they were having a problem in the kitchen or the like, she decides to blame Mohamed by saying "Well it is because you ordered your burger well done, that takes longer."
Up until that point, I would have still tipped. I understand things get hectic or people make mistakes. But to rudely blame someone who is obviously not at fault, gets you a losing ticket in my book.
Never once was there any hint of remorse, or an apology. So when it came time to sign my receipt, I entered a nice $0.00 in the tip field. Sorry lady, it may or may not have been your fault it took so long. But you could have been a little more concerned and/or apologetic, rather than being rude!
To top it off, we asked for our bill. Then waited another 10 minutes… We decided to walk inside from the patio, and just pay up front. Well where was she?? Out in front of the building smoking a cigarette!!!
What sucks for her is, I am a great tipper. Usually anywhere from 30-50% but 50% being the normal end of my spectrum. On occassion I have no problem tipping 100%. I realize that people in the service industry make their living off tips. And I want to make sure they are well taken care of. Well that is, if they are decent to me and afford me that same courtesy.

InfoSec World Conference
Posted by Greg on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 09:40
|
Well next week I will be out of the office to attend the InfoSec World Conference. All the latest and greatest in information security will be on display at the expo, and there are many seminars I will be attending. Tom Ridge will be the keynote speaker, so that promises to be interesting. I wonder if anyone will ask this year if George Bush is an idiot??? The only bad thing about this conference is that it is at a Disney resort. And the travel distance is just short of what it takes for the company to provide a hotel room. So I will have to drive out each day. Granted I am reimbursed for travel expenses, but sheesh that is going to be a lot of driving. Either way, I am looking forward to going.
On a side note... My car is hella dirty, I really need to clean it! I just wanted everyone to know that. lol...
